The ceramic series by Flaminia icons of design. What are the most creative shapes in the latest catalogue? ( part 3 ).
In recent posts we have been focusing on the production of Ceramica Flaminia since the beginning of this century. In previous posts we started to discover the starting point: “All Ceramica Flaminia sanitary wares in the new millennium and their toilet seats (part 1)” the first three winning projects were: LINK, SPIN and TERRA. Then the post: “The Flaminia ceramic series after the WORK IN PROGRESS revolution (Link, Spin and Terra) and their WC covers (part 2)” the ceramic series: NILE, MONO’ and VOID.
Today we will look at other sanitary wares that best embody where the highest level and we can also say the provocative limit (in a formal sense) of design genius can be reached.
UNA series Ceramica Flaminia
Looking for a special sanitary ware series? This project by designer Romano Adolini is surprising. You have certainly heard of semi-recessed washbasins for bathroom furniture, but what about sanitary ware? No? Then take a look at Una by Flaminia. Of course, some may object that Pozzi Ginori had done something similar with the Thermae series. But the stylistic details in this case are maniacal. Even the toilet seat cover was worked on, and a mould was made which curves around the front following the profile of the sanitary ware.

This series by Ceramica Flaminia recently had a restyling and was called IO 2.0. For us, the previous version was much more special and unique.
IO series Ceramica Flaminia
To understand the shape of Flaminia’s IO sanitary ware, look at the picture opposite. A parallelepiped in the back supports a rounded outline in its development. The upper surface is curved with a rear elevation outlining an arch. Unbelievable!
What did the toilet seat cover look like? A normal toilet seat or something strange and unusual? The toilet seat is a curved toilet seat and since the anchorage space, it has to cling to the raised ceramic surface, is very narrow it has a centre distance of only 8 cm.
On the old version of the IO toilet seat, we would like to point out that the version now available is with fixing of the pins that mount on the ceramic made for a through-hole. The very first versions had a closed hole fixing. So before ordering the toilet seat please check that the holes are open for use of fixing lozenge provided.

Madre sereis Ceramica Flaminia
Here two designers “SILVANA ANGELETTI – DANIELE RUZZA” talented designers have succeeded in giving new formal life to a classically styled series. Looking at these sanitary wares, one perceives the designers’ intention to refer to classic atmospheres, but also to give them an innovative and modern twist.
Let’s see how the two designers describe it and from the FLAMINIA website (HERE the LINK) we discover that the Madre series is described as follows: “It is not a simple exercise in style, but an extraordinary creative effort that takes its cue from the history of Italian design to rewrite the habits of contemporary living. In short, this is the vision behind the birth of Madre, designed by Angeletti-Ruzza. The contents of Italian rationalist architecture, which permeate the culture of good design and collective memory, define the meeting point between the designers’ imagination and Flaminia’s manufacturing experience. In this exchange, the Madre collection took shape. The elegant harmony of signs and proportions satisfies stylistic and, at the same time, functional requirements. The contemporary is inspired by the classical to create a paradoxical break with the past: yesterday and today feed off each other in a perfect dialectic.“
In the opinion of the Sintesibagno team, this sanitary ware series is, from a formal point of view, the most successful in the last 10 years. While retaining a classic style that surpasses the modern design so much praised in recent times by industry insiders, it is able to assert itself and make itself uniquely recognisable. The rectangular base, outlined at the bottom by two steps, supports curves that are truly reminiscent of feminine beauty and elegance. Objects to be admired! Congratulations to the designers and to the ceramic company that manages to flesh out the idea so well!
