Philippe Starck and the Duravit ceramics series. Original VS Dedicated toilet seats, which one to choose?

Philippe Starck and the Duravit ceramics series. Original VS Dedicated toilet seats, which one to choose?

To talk about Starck we need to know Duravit well. It has a commercial subsidiary on the Italian market and has had to compete with historic Made in Italy companies. In our opinion, it has never had the success that the quality of its products deserves. What is certain is that the German company, which recently celebrated its 200th anniversary, has travelled a long way in the world, achieving impressive sales figures. HERE is a link to its history and the Duravit Group’s business values. Much of the credit for this resounding international success goes to its designers, whom Duravit was the first to call on for highly stylish and innovative shapes. First and foremost, Philippe Starck himself. The collaboration began in 1994 and has continued to this day with one success after another. On the company’s website you will find the whole history of the products and also a great interview with this brilliant designer. HERE the link and a small passage: “The “enfant terrible” of design. When Philippe Starck and Duravit carried out their first joint project in 1994, it was love at first sight. However, no one could have imagined how many results this relationship would bring. Success came with the famous “Starck cone”, which is still a classic in the Duravit range today. “I always said that the bathroom should become a wet living room. But nobody understood me. Until Duravit. This is why I love Duravit!”

Starck 1 series by Duravit

Where it all began. It was back in 1994. A small stylistic revolution in the world of bathroom design. We have already talked about it in the post: ”Sanitaryware as round as a circle. Here you need customised toilet seats!” where we saw its round shape as a perfect circle, and in the post: ”What are the widest toilet seats and their covers? From what size is a toilet seat non-standard? (part 1)” where we saw that it has a circular shape with a diameter of 42 cm (width). The company website describes it as follows (quoting directly from the Duravit catalogue): “Bucket, tub and basin. With Starck 1, Philippe Starck and Duravit have returned to the origins of hygiene, body care and well-being. The series therefore also describes the evolution of the bathroom. The toilet, bathtub and washbasin are a clear reference to their historical ancestors: the bucket, tub and basin (and we add CERCHIO), albeit completely reinterpreted“. A circular shape with a diameter of 42 cm (width). Here a small clarification on the toilet seats, at the following link you will find the original version and the dedicated variant very sought after because clearly more robust, at the following link [ clik here ]

Starck 2 series by Duravit

From the round shape to the D shape, perhaps less striking but still minimal and embellished by the prominent L-shaped element at the back. The shapes have been reduced and the list price has also been lowered, making it affordable for many. This is how the Duravit website describes it: “A real Starck but with fewer pretensions: Starck 2, a ceramic series that represents the evolution and completion of its famous predecessor, the Starck 1 series. Starck 2 is also based on the origins of bathroom design: the shapes of the ceramics pick up on the movement with which water makes its way and allow us to see and experience the bathroom in a new way. The bathroom as a source. The sides of the Starck 2 sanitary ware are completely closed: concealed fastenings, unaltered perfection, easy to clean and a joy to the eyes of design lovers.” The WC seats for this Duravit series are available in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik here ]

Starck 3 series by Duravit

Certainly the simplest from a formal point of view, but as the company itself points out, with these sanitary ware items design becomes accessible to everyone. Produced in the floor-standing and wall-hung versions with two depths, 54 and 48. An important detail that we have already highlighted in the post: ”Sanitary ware and its covers with (non-standard) out-of-round centres (part 2)”. The wheelbase of its toilet seat is an impressive 27 cm! You can find it in its various versions at the following link [ clik here ]. On one of our websites (www.copriwater.it) you can also find an article about Starck 1,2,3 toilet seats at the following link [ clik here ]

We have seen the ceramic series designed by Starck for Duravit and their toilet seats.
