Terri Pecora and its designer WCs. Never before has there been such a need for original or perfectly dedicated toilet seats.

Let’s start with this post to look at the sanitaryware lines that were not designed by the various technical departments of ceramic manufacturers, but were born from the creative genius of some designer. Let’s start with Terri Pecora. To get to know her we suggest the link to her website www.terripecora.net.

”Here is an excerpt of what you will find: “Terri Pecora, from Los Angeles, was a former student at the Art Center college of Design in Southern California and completed her academic work in Milan, Italy, in 1990 at the Domus Academy. Since then she has worked in a wide range of fields within the design industry, including furniture design, bathroom products, stand and retail interior design, eyewear and fashion accessories and children’s products. Aesthetic functionality best describes Terri’s work and she has often experimented with unexpected solutions that set her designs apart. She has also worked extensively as an Art Director for communication concepts and design strategies, guiding graphic designers, photographers, video makers and web designers throughout the creative process. Terri creates a connection between the wide range of elements within a brand’s repertoire to create a coherent, lasting and exciting scenario to build on. Some of her products have been shortlisted for the Compasso d’Oro and have been included in major international publications and design exhibitions. She has taught at the Domus Academy, European Institute of Design, La Sapienza University in Rome, Milan Polytechnic and most recently at NABA in Milan. Some of Terri’s clients include: Arte e Cuoio, Bisazza, BRF, Bysteele, Cinova, Marco Bicego, Dom Ceramica, Edra, Emmebi, Esprit, Interflex/Flou, M&Z Rubinetti, Montblanc, Persol, Plinio il Giovane, Plumcake kids/Prénatal, Simas, Silhouette/Adidas, Swatch, Vice Versa, VitrA global and Zanotta”.

One of the most popular series to come out of Terri Pecora’s pencil and designed for Simas ceramics we have already met in the post: ”The floor-standing sanitaryware with caresses (flush with the wall). Wrap-around and soft shapes. Top-fixing toilet seats are required.(expa)” and it was LFT Spazio (Acqua Space) (year 2004)

LUNA series by Simas

It was 1996 when it was designed and it was a real success for the Simas company of Civita Castellana, which enabled it to make an important entry into foreign markets. The designer describes it as follows: “LUNA was one of the first ceramic bathroom collections to be produced with straight lines and architectural angles. According to Pecora, the source of inspiration was the series LINDA by Ideal Standard (which we discussed in the post: ”Ideal Standard toilet seats and sanitaryware old models (part 1)“).” The back of the toilet bowl and, of course, of the toilet seat are very special and resemble a ‘half moon’. The old thermoset toilet seat is no longer available, but we have had a white coated wooden version made with that particular shape, which you can find in the store at the following link [ clik here ]

FLOW series by Simas

(year 2003) A great project both from a formal and dimensional point of view, minimal but dynamic, where square, oval, rectangular and rounded shapes coexist, and from the point of view of market appreciation. Two types of sanitary ware were even presented for this series: the round Flow, which we have already seen in the post: ”Round sanitaryware as a circle+flat element (part 2)” and the Flow Quadro/Square which we see in the photo opposite, made to be combined with the wide range of washbasins of the same series with round, square and rectangular basins. The two series were presented in both floor-standing and wall-hung versions. Recently the square new version was presented in the wall-hung version only. You can find all the toilet seat models like the original in the store at the following link [ clik here ]

BOHEMIEN series by Simas

To describe this series we take our cue from the designers’ website: (year 2006) “A collection designed for a luxury market, highlighting the sculptural forms of ceramics and architectural furnishings. The name of the collection recalls the artistic movement of the turn of the century and Brancusi’s artistic sculptures with their asymmetrical shapes.” Truly a series of sanitary ware for the lux market. Impressive in size and unique, innovative shape. The BOHEMIEN toilet seat cover is available in its original version at the following link [ clik here ]

E-LINE series by Simas

(Year 2009) Perhaps the simplest line of sanitary ware from a stylistic point of view, but you can still find Pecora’s geometric design hand. The project was strongly influenced by the historical and economic period of the market, the simplicity had also productive needs to keep the costs low to go out with a price list to the public calibrated to the period. You can find the toilet seats for this series (E-LINE) in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik here ]
