Today we will look at sanitary wares produced by a company that perfectly embodies the concept of English luxury and style: Devon & Devon. From their website we discover that:” Founded by two architects and now part of the Italcer Group, Devon&Devon has the culture of design in its DNA. This is why, alongside its complete and coordinated collections, it offers “D&D Tailored Interiors”, a unique design service for made-to-measure solutions with a distinctly tailor-made look, entrusted to the short supply chain of its specialised craftsmen and an in-house team of architects who closely follow each stage of realisation.”
The stylistic feature that Devon&Devon best represents we have discovered in many previous posts where we have seen other ceramic manufacturers offer the market retro, classic and English style sanitary ware. In the post: “Toilet seat for classic-style WCs” we saw: ANTALIA by Dolomite, ELLADE by Hidra Ceramica, RETRO’ by Kerasan, ARCADE by Simas and MAGICA by Faleri. ASTORIA series Devon & Devon
Astoria is reminiscent of the 19th century retro and deco style even in its name. It is considered the most luxurious octagonal sanitary ware series in the bathroom furnishing world. An almost regular octagonal shape embellished in the body of the sanitary ware, both in the lower part of the foot and in the upper part by light steps that make it an artistic structure. We find this ‘gradinatura’ in two other ceramic series that we can consider its direct competitors in this category: CALLA by Ideal Standard and ARCADE by Simas, both series with a profoundly different shape from Astoria, but both characterised by this stylistic trait.
ETOILE series Devon & Devon
The best-selling series from Devon&Devon is in our opinion: Etoile. Perhaps as ceramic workmanship the easiest, but it is the essence of English style bathroom furniture. An antiqued shape that is also used by other ceramic manufacturers: at the top of the sanitary ware body, a spherical shape is embellished with a raised rim around the entire perimeter. It sits on a rectangular base that widens out towards the bottom to become an aesthetic base. It is very reminiscent of the series that we have often called the “mother” of this type of sanitary ware: Montebianco by Pozzi Ginori. WESTMINSTER series Devon & Devon
The most fascinating series from the Tuscan company could only be called Westminster. Like the famous London district and its most famous monuments designed in the neo-Gothic style, these sanitary ware pick up on its style and peculiarities (see the use of pointed arches). Looking at the sanitary ware and its cover from above, one can recognise its shape and style, the interruption of the constant radius and its indentation at the front make it a unique figure. The body of the sanitary ware is also embellished with neo-Gothic shapes and workmanship, making it a series with an important and classic appearance.
