This type of sanitary ware was at its most popular in the ’80s and ’90s. We in the Sintesibagno team think that the first series to be offered with this feature was the Sintesi series by Cesame, These sanitary wares then inspired other equally famous series such as Clodia by Dolomite and Alia by Ceramica Globo. But let’s look at them individually.
Sintesi series Cesame
As we have seen very well in the article dedicated to Cesame sanitary ware: “Ceramica Cesame and the challenge to the big boys in the industry” this ceramic house gained great appreciation from the market for its innovative shapes in the ’80s. The Sintesi series can be considered the first product made with the step feature or the first to be so successful that it was identified as an example in its category. With this sanitary ware, the Sicilian company achieved market shares worthy of the great producers of the time: Ideal Standard and Dolomite. Clodia series Dolomite
The success that Cesame‘s Sintesi sanitary wares were having on the bathroom market prompted the big companies in the sector to produce a WC with those characteristics. Ceramica Dolomite was the company that first launched the challenge and given the success of its Clodia sanitary ware, we can say that the game ended in a draw.
On this vase, if you accept our advice, you should only fit the old original model in white polyester-coated wood (we call it old because a thermoset version is now being offered for the Clodia step, which is not as good in terms of stability anyway), which we managed to find from an old manufacturer and is still available in the store at the following link: [ clik here ]
FLAVIA series Globo Ceramiche
Among the many companies in the ceramic district of Civita Castellana, Globo, which is always attentive to market innovations and trends, presented a series in those years that became a best-seller too: it was called Flavia. A ceramic D-shaped series too, but with more abundant shapes and curves than Clodia and Sintesi. It has a very classic style almost to the point of being a retro line that we discovered in the post: “Modern sanitary ware, but with classic/antique shapes? How is this possible? Where can I find toilet seat covers?” What made this Globo sanitary ware unmistakable? It was its elongated step at the back of the toilet, as you can clearly see in the picture opposite.
